About The Red Lighthouse
A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither can truth.
The Red Lighthouse is an independent, reader-funded publication covering three things: the persecuted global church, religious liberty and the law, and Christian discernment in a loud age. We run no ads and never will. No one buys our attention, so no one can buy our silence.
Why we exist
Somewhere in the world today, a believer will be arrested for hosting a Bible study, a family will be taken on a road, and a court will decide what a conscience is worth. Most of it never reaches your feed. What does reach it usually arrives as one of two things: rage, which is fury without facts, or mush, which is sentiment without stakes. We built The Red Lighthouse for readers who want neither. Short dispatches. Named sources. Honest uncertainty. And always, somewhere in the grief, the light.
How we work
Every morning the watch begins with the primary record: court filings, government releases, UN and USCIRF documents, and the field reporting of the persecution watchdogs, among them Open Doors, International Christian Concern, Article18, ChinaAid, CSW, Middle East Concern, and Barnabas Aid.
Then the standard, applied without exception. Every factual claim is verified against at least two sources, at least one of them primary or on the ground. Every article lists its sources at the end, with links, so you can check our work. Where the record is thin, we tell you in the piece itself rather than papering over it. When we get something wrong, we correct it in print and say that we corrected it. Nothing is published without review and sign-off by the publisher.
Who writes this
The Red Lighthouse is written by its keepers under three house voices. The Watchman reports persecution with names, dates, and sources. The Advocate explains religious liberty law in plain language and takes the other side's best argument seriously. The Discerner writes as one believer thinking out loud about what the news asks of a disciple.
We publish under house bylines rather than personal ones, an old tradition in journalism kept by publications far older than ours, and for a reason that fits this beat: much of what we cover involves people for whom a printed name carries a price. The story should always be bigger than the writer. The publication is independently owned, and its publisher reviews and stands behind every word.
