The Lightkeeper program thanks readers who bring paying members to The Red Lighthouse. This page is the whole rulebook, in plain language.

Your keeper link, step by step

Your keeper link is any Red Lighthouse article address with your keeper code added to the end. Making one takes ten seconds.

Step one: sign in on the Lightkeepers page (a free subscription counts). The Get your keeper link box then creates your personal code automatically and keeps it yours forever.

Step two: press Copy my link. If you ever want to share a specific article instead of the front page, add a question mark, then ref=, then your code, to the end of that article address. Like this:

Step three: share that link anywhere you like: text message, email, church bulletin, social media. When a reader follows it and signs up, our system records that they came from you, automatically. There is nothing to register and no dashboard to manage; just use the same code every time so all your referrals count together.

One more thing about codes: use your full name so your code is your own. If two keepers ever end up with the same keeper code, we sort it out at the monthly close using signup records, and the code stays with whoever used it first. Members who create their link while signed in get a unique code automatically, which avoids the question entirely.

Qualified referrals

A referral counts when a new reader arrives through your keeper link, becomes a paying member, and makes their first payment at the regular price. The $1 introductory month does not count by itself; the referral qualifies when the second month, the first at $8.99, goes through. A reader who joins on the annual plan qualifies right away, since the $89 payment is full regular price. Free signups are welcome and appreciated, but they do not advance ranks or earn rewards. One keeper account per person. Self referrals, duplicate accounts, disposable payment tricks, and bulk signups do not count and forfeit pending rewards.

Rank rewards

Beacon, 5 qualified referrals, $25. Keeper, 15 qualified referrals, $75. Luminary, 40 qualified referrals, $250. Each bonus is paid once, when the rank is first reached. Badges are open to keepers everywhere; cash rewards are limited to United States residents 18 and older for now.

Lightkeeper of the Month

The keeper who brings the most new paying members in a calendar month wins. The prize is a $500 Visa gift card in months where the winner brings 10 or more new paying members, and $100 otherwise, plus a $200 donation made in the winner's honor to a ministry serving the persecuted church, chosen by the winner from our list: Open Doors US, The Voice of the Martyrs, or International Christian Concern. The winner also picks one item from the keeper store and takes the top spot on the leaderboard. Ties break toward the keeper whose referrals arrived first.

Taxes and honesty

Cash and gift cards are taxable income. Anyone crossing $600 in a calendar year completes a W-9 and receives a 1099. If you promote your keeper link, tell people plainly that you can earn rewards. It is the law, and it is also just honest.
