Seven Men Went to a Child's Birthday Party. Six Villages Lost Their Churches.
A birthday party for a five year old in Dindori ended with seven men serving five years and six village congregations shut.
The party was for a five-year-old girl. Her father, Suday Singh Maravi, had asked friends and relatives to the house in Diwari village, in the Dindori district of Madhya Pradesh. The date was April 27, 2024.
A crowd came. Accounts put it between 100 and 150 people. They ringed the house, kept the guests inside, and shouted that a conversion was going on in there.
Maravi called the police. The police came, moved the crowd along, and arrested seven of his guests.
Two years later a judge gave each of those seven men five years. Maravi told the court, under oath, that no one in his house had tried to convert anyone. The court convicted them anyway.
