Eighty Prisoners of War Broke Out of a Resistance Jail in Tedim on Sunday Night. On Monday Afternoon the Assistant Pastor of Lamzang Was Shot Three Times at the Kapte Bridge. His Convention's Letter Quoted Matthew 25:21 and Did Not Say How He Died.
Dal Thawn Tuang, assistant pastor of Lamzang Baptist Church in Chin State, was shot three times at the Kapte bridge on September 14. The institute that confirmed his death says the military killed him. The Burmese press says escaped prisoners of war did.
The Tiddim Baptist Convention wrote to the family on Wednesday. The letter quoted one verse, Matthew 25:21, the master telling the servant well done. It did not say how the servant died.
Dal Thawn Tuang was forty nine. He had been assistant pastor of Lamzang Baptist Church for twenty two years, in a Chin village about five and a half miles from Tiddim town, and on Monday afternoon he was on the road home from Tui Tawh, where he had gone to preach. Near the Kapte bridge, at about four o'clock, someone shot him. When the body was examined there were three wounds: chest, abdomen, thigh. He leaves a wife and two children. They buried him on Wednesday at one in the afternoon, in Lamzang.
The Burma Research Institute in Maryland, which confirmed the death, says the Burmese military killed him. International Christian Concern carried the same line on Thursday under the headline "Military Kills Another Pastor in Myanmar." Another, because in June the army killed Rev. William of Chungcung Baptist Church after holding him since May, and his people buried him in August.
Both statements are true as far as they go. The Burmese press, reporting from closer to the bridge, tells a stranger and worse story about who was holding the gun.
